Default Nightfall Strategy Guide

Hey, does anyone know if there is a guide in existence. I tried to order from Walmart and Amazon; they both cancelled the orders. My local gaming stores are clueless. Any help out there?

Hi all,

Sorry for the belated reply. We've all been busy here crunching through the holiday titles, but we should have posted an explanation earlier.

While we had high hopes for publishing a guide on this title, both Prima and Arena Net agreed that it would be impossible to get an accurate guide created in time to release with the game. The heavy emphasis on PVP action in Guild Wars is the key component of the game, and it requries constant tweaking and balancing, even after the game master has been sent off to duplication. For Arena Net, this means providing Prima with massive daily updates on changes to the statistics, abilities, and spells. Even with a high level of quality control, it's impossible to ensure 100% accuracy, as changes are made after the book goes to print. We are currently working to evaluate continuing publishing opportunities, and this thread would be a great place to get some feedback from you guys. What would you find useful? Mission walkthroughs and maps for Nightfall? Spells and abilities compendium? A reference book for character builds?

Your feedback is important to us, and we need it in order to provide you with the most useful books possible. Communication is a two-way street, and we apologize for letting this thread go unanswered for so long.

Now post your wish lists for the ultimate Guild Wars strategy compendium!
Quoted from Prima Games™. You can find an entire thread about it in their forums. And I would put this somewhere other than Explorer's, because it does not deal with the game itself.

Would have been nice if they published this before the game came out instead of posting it for sale at any retailer that sells games. I wanted the guide strictly for the poster sized map. I opted to skip on the collectors edition since my Factions collectors edition was over a month late.

Some retailers offering Factions Collectors Edition for $49.99 to get rid of it...

They sold out of the Nightfall CE and now want the space for other products and restock I guess...

I saw it on sale at Walmart, Best Buy, and CompUSA today.

See the problem with factions CE was it was SOOO late. the Nightfall CE was a huge hit because it came out on time... By the time Factions CE was out in most locations people that Play the game that are die hards, already got the standard edition, so it was not worth it by that time.

As to the strat guide. Since Factions was significantly smaller in content, and was basically 100% finished at shipping time, the guide was ready for print on time.

Nightfall however was only about 98% complete at shipping. The rest was completed in the on site servers before going gold, and in all reality there is still at least 1 mission and area left that is being added around x-mas.

So in that case nightfall was not ready for a strat guide at launch, and Anet knew this. Since the fan sites often make their own ref material anyway I would imagine they figured by the time it would be ready to print a strat guide, most material would be out there in fan sites anyway. So thats Prob why it was scrubbed. Its unfortunate, cause I did like that offline ref material for my use if I wanted it... But allas I am already about 50% there at making my own guide with full tables and maps for each region. And the Huge Game map is already made in Livingston's Cartographer Thread!!! SO thats always a good thing as well. I do agree the Smaller CE map was no where near as nice as the huge poster size maps from Tyria and Cantha out of the guides. But thats ok. Its still a good reference tool. In a pinch.

Actually, the true die hards bought the standard edition so they wouldn't have to go a month without Factions, then bought the CE as well when it became available.

Wow, love to hear the feedback. We've always assumed that many players understood the ever-changing nature of MMO's would make it impossible to release a completely accurate guide.

As for the whisperings of a failing franchise, or the suggestion that ArenaNet has let us down, I think we're missing the mark. Guild Wars is one of the most successful MMO's on the market. The guides for the original campaign, as well as Factions, were amazing sellers. ArenaNet wrote the guide for Factions themselves, and they took a lot of flak for the information that was changed after we went to print. Honestly, I don't think any of us would rather have them divert crucial development team resources from the game in order to get a guide done on time. If the game's not good, the guide sort of loses its appeal.

To complicate things further, there is a mindset with the retail chains that if the guide is not available at the same time as the game, it's simply *not* a viable product. Indeed, historical sales data supports this assertion- if the guide is not in stock when you purchase the game, odds are that you won't return to the store to buy the guide.

That being said, we've aggregated the feedback here and will do our best to publish a Nightfall guide. It might be a downloadable digital version, but hopefully it will help to fill the void.

Many of us here at Prima, including me, are avid MMO players. As such, we are fully aware of the need for quality data and maps. I will keep updating this thread to keep everyone in the loop.

Again, sorry we teased you with this product listing. When we signed the title, it was entered into our publishing database, and that information is automatically fed electronically to all of the online retailer web sites. Unfortunately, it's incredibly difficult to de-list titles that end up getting cancelled.

For those of you who have posted on this forum prior to this post, and were suckered by the Amazon.com listing, please send me your contact info. I will make sure that if and when we get a book made for Factions, you will receive a free copy, as well as a special bonus treat =)

Good point! lol I actually did pickup the CE of factions from walmart for $49 Yesterday even though I have had faction since release, so maybe I'm more a die hard then I thought! lol

And in the above Prima games quote? For Factions? HUH? I think he mistyped and meant Nightfall. lol

I may be interested in getting the nightfall guide as a download, but I would prefer a physical book cause I like to make corrections as I go in the book, as the game evolves...

True...
Depending on how big it is, it might be worth printing out the better parts...

im not the type to surf the web for info. So since I'm a dedicated Guru forum reader for the info I seek about guild wars, I'm going to ask my "Bump up this topic question here".

Is there any updated info on the nightfall guide? It's been 9 days since last post. If there is a source everyone is running to for there info, can you post the link here so i can check out the updates.

Check my last post on this in this thread; you'd need to send an email to the address in my post for any further news regarding a guide....
